With this sutra, Patanjali teaches that yoga follow is preventive drugs for our minds—a method to maintain future ache and struggling from manifesting. He reminds us that previous ache doesn’t exist anymore, present ache is in course of and can run its course, and future ache may be diminished or prevented altogether by committing to the yogic way of life.

“Pain that has not yet come is avoidable” is a sutra within the Sadhana Pada, the chapter of the Yoga Sutra on follow.
